DFW Dorms & Beyond is looking for creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Design Interns to join our team and gain hands-on experience in both interior design and the day-to-day operations of a growing design and retail business.

This internship is designed for college students pursuing a degree in Interior Design or a related field who want experience beyond the classroom. You’ll work alongside our design team on real client projects while gaining exposure to everything that goes into bringing a space from concept to completion.

This is a highly hands-on role. Our interns don’t just observe — they assist with design preparation, client projects, installations, styling, showroom organization, product sourcing, and the many behind-the-scenes details that help our projects come together.

The position is approximately 80% in person and 20% remote, with most in-person work taking place at our Plano office/showroom or at local project and installation locations.

 

What You’ll Do

As a Design Intern, you’ll support our design team throughout different stages of the design process while also gaining an inside look at how a growing design business operates.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting designers with client projects, design concepts, and project preparation

• Helping create design boards, presentation materials, and product selections

• Assisting with sourcing furniture, décor, bedding, fabrics, artwork, and accessories

• Organizing samples, fabrics, product resources, and design materials

• Preparing products and materials for client meetings and installations

• Assisting with room installations, styling, and final project details

• Helping measure, organize, and prepare spaces for upcoming projects

• Supporting our Plano showroom and design studio as needed

• Assisting with product photography, styling, and occasional design-related content

• Helping maintain organized project files, product information, and design resources

• Assisting with other design and operational projects as the business continues to grow

 

Because this is a small and growing company, interns will have the opportunity to see many different sides of the business, not just one part of the design process.

 

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Interior Design or a related field

• Creative with a strong interest in interiors, styling, furniture, and décor

• Detail-oriented and highly organized

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment

• Willing to help with both creative projects and the practical work required to execute them

• Able to take direction, ask questions, and work collaboratively with a team

• Dependable and able to manage assigned responsibilities and deadlines

• Comfortable interacting professionally with clients, vendors, and other team members

• Interested in learning more about the business side of interior design

 

Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

• Canva

• AutoCAD

• SketchUp

• Revit

• DesignFiles

• Adobe Photoshop/InDesign

• 3D rendering software

• Space planning

• Design boards and client presentations

 

We understand that interns are still learning. We are looking for someone with a strong design eye, willingness to learn, positive attitude, and good work ethic more than someone who already knows every design program.

 

Schedule & Work Environment

This is a part-time hybrid internship based in Plano, Texas, with approximately:

 

80% In Person – Plano office/showroom, client meetings, styling, installations, and project preparation
20% Remote – Design boards, sourcing, research, and other project-based assignments

Hours may vary depending on project schedules, installations, and business needs.   Some installation days may require earlier start times, longer days, or travel to project locations throughout the DFW area.   There is also the potential for continued opportunities with DFW Dorms for interns who are a strong fit as the company continues to grow.
